Measuring the effect of ADHD treatment

About the author

In his work as a child psychiatrist, Dr. Wouter Green sees many children with ADHD and their parents. It is a daily challenge to come to a shared, informed decision on which treatment will work best for this particular child in his or her own environment. Also, how can one find out whether a treatment is effective?

Green: "It is actually quite hard to find out whether medication has a significant effect, as children may behave differently in different settings. When I sit down with parents and their child to discuss the effect of medication, we sometimes come to conclude that we just can't tell. In certain instances, this may cause children to use too little or too much medication."
